Young adult fiction (YA) is a category of fiction written for readers from 12 to 18 years of age. While the genre is targeted to teenagers, approximately half of YA readers are adults. The subject matter and genres of YA correlate with the age and experience of the protagonist. Is the main difference between a Young Adult and Adult book fiction is the topic of choice that is relevant to either Adults or young adults? So it won't matter whether or not the MC/Protagonist/Narrator is an adult or young adult as long as some of the themes and/or plot mentioned is relevant to whichever genre I choose to write for?
Marketing. This category is intended to be marketed to post-adolescents and young-adults ages 18 to 30.
